From Monday 17th May 2021, restrictions are being lifted in regard to the maximum number of people who can attend a funeral service. However, the number of attendees at a funeral will be determined by how many people the venue can safely accommodate with social distancing measures in place. Funeral venues must still ensure social distancing and procedures are still in place to reduce infection rates such as face mask wearing, hand sanitisation and track and trace.
Here is the latest permitted number of people allowed at our local crematoriums:
Woodlands Crematorium (Scarborough): 20 People Only.
Kirkleatham Crematorium (Redcar): 54 Inside Chapel & Unlimited Outside the Chapel subject to Social Distancing.
We understand that this is not ideal considering the distress you may be going through, but these are exceptional circumstances and therefore we must adhere to the government guidelines. Families may consider making use of the live webcasting system that is in operation in both crematoriums so family or friends who cannot attend the funeral service can watch the service online over the internet.
For commemorative events such as funeral teas and interment of cremated remains, the number of people permitted will increase to a maximum of 30 people. This maximum limit does not include anyone working at the event, but the actual number of people able to attend will depend on how many people the venue can safely accommodate. Commemorative events of up to 30 people can take place outdoors.
Face masks must be worn inside a church, crematorium and outside for a grave side service unless you have an exception as per the government guidance .
If you require any further information or wish to discuss any of these guidance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Whether it is a simple wreath, a full coffin spray or a bespoke design, there is an extensive variety of tributes available. (Please see the gallery page for examples of these).
Following a cremation service, we can arrange for the flowers to be placed in the Garden of Remembrance or any other location that you may desire. Further directions will be taken with regards to flowers following the funeral service.
A memorial provides a focus for our personal memories, a place to visit, lay flowers and reflect on happy times. Robert Harrison & Sons has its own Monumental Mason that can create a unique tribute especially crafted to suit your individual requirements. We offer a full range of high quality memorials, all of which can be made in different materials, sizes, designs and carvings.
Each memorial can be personalised, and when deciding there are some options which should be considered:
Style and Colour of Lettering
Type of Material, for example; Sandstone or Granite
Application of a Design or Photo Plaque
Accessories including Flower Vases
Please bear in mind that all cemeteries and church yards have regulations in place for new memorials and will require a memorial application to be approved; we will submit this on your behalf.
York Diocese church yards have quite strict regulations as they are historic church yards. Please see our gallery page for suitable memorials for church yard use.
Our own Monumental Mason will manufacture and fix all headstones to BRAMM and NAMN standards. All memorials are produced from high quality stone and are engraved by highly skilled craftsmen.
Our staff can advise you on any queries that you may have, either in relation to regulations, advice or with regards to other types of memorials such as cremated remains plaques or grave markers.
(Please see our gallery page to see the range of memorials which we offer).
